Hi! My name is Rachel Moore, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Diego, California. (You can learn more about my therapy practice here.)
I am certified in EMDR and trained in Brainspotting, and I have a passion for helping creative people. Why? Because I am one myself! I’ve been singing since before I could talk, started learning piano at age 7, played saxophone and auxiliary percussion in middle school and high school (after rocking out on the recorder in elementary), then studied singing in college and beyond. My undergraduate degree is in Creative Writing, and I wrote tens of thousands of headlines in my previous career as a newspaper copy editor. I’ve also dabbled in improv. Oh, and I was in a rock band once!
Although I've shared a stage with artists like the Indigo Girls, Bobby McFerrin, and Patrick Page, my favorite performance was for my voice teacher during a lesson (a story I'll tell another time). I also have been facilitating educational groups based on the book "The Artist's Way" since 2005, and it is my favorite thing to do.
The highs and lows of the creative path are familiar to me. I also know it's sometimes hard to explain to others why self-expression is so important. That’s why I wanted to focus my therapy practice on helping the creative community, and it's also why I started this podcast — to gather folks together who can help artists navigate their lives in their own unique ways.
Whether you’re a creative professional, an art appreciator, or something in between, I hope you find inspiration and encouragement from Beyond Artist's Block. And if you're a therapist who works with creatives, I would love to connect with you. You are all welcome here!
